Food Preservation Equipment Library

Brought to you by the ICAN Food Security Team

The Food Preservation Equipment Library has reopened after a brief interruption while the Library moved to a new location.

Quadra has a long history of families producing their own food. Buying, storing and maintaining the equipment for preserving that food can be challenging. This Library is a way to ensure that everyone has access to equipment they need. Sharing resources is less costly, more efficient and reduces the number of trips off-island. Thanks to a grant from the Strathcona Community Food Hub, the Garden Club/ICAN Food Security Team makes this sharing possible.

Any resident of Quadra or Cortes can borrow items for free, although donations to help defray the cost of insurance and repairs are gratefully received. Any funds raised above operating costs will be used to purchase more equipment. Donations are eligible for a tax receipt. The Food Preservation Equipment Library also accepts donations of food preservation equipment.

How It Works

If there is an item you wish to borrow, simply email quadraicanfoodteam@gmail.com to reserve and arrange a convenient pick up time.

When you collect the item, you will be asked for a date that you will return the item. You may keep the piece of equipment as long as you like but if someone else needs it before your agreed upon return date, you may get a call asking if you are able to return it so the other borrower may have access.
