Arbutus Pathway Project

Brought to you by the ICAN Transportation Team

The Arbutus Pathway Project is being undertaken by the ICAN Transportation Team. The goal is to make a cycling/walking pathway on the existing right of way, under a permit issued to the Strathcona Regional District from the BC Ministry of Transportation and
    Infrastructure.

Arbutus Road currently has two somewhat developed end sections, from Cape Mudge Road on the west end, and Cedar Road on the east. In between, where it has not been developed, the centre section is mud for most of the year.

Using shovels and wheelbarrows, in order to minimize the impact on wetlands, the team is building a three to four foot wide pathway. “Bridges” of rotting pallets are being replaced by safe walkways.

Motorized vehicle traffic will be blocked off to to minimize impacts on neighbouring properties, as well as safeguard the wetlands. It is hoped that gravel will be used to top off the pathway, giving it a stable, year round surface.
