Quadra Island Climate Action Network is seeking to hire a general coordinator. The position is part-time, approximately 40 hours per month, with flexible hours; the successful applicant will work from home. The position is presently funded for one year. ICAN will be seeking ongoing support to make the position long-term.
ICAN’s aim is to assist Quadra in becoming more resilient and self-sufficient in the face of impending ecological challenges. Its mandate is to organize and foster direct action on clearly defined practical projects. Past and ongoing projects include the solar energy installation on Quadra Elementary, Squash the Curve, two highly popular tool repair workshops, two glass jar exchanges, a vibrant online Free Store, multiple workshops related to food sustainability, an active transportation corridor, major surveys of the island’s wetlands and aquifers, and an island-wide initiative to plant and tend nut trees to supply the community.
The coordinator’s duties will include liaison with ICAN’s various action teams, and with project stakeholders, granting agencies, volunteers, and community members. They will assist action teams with procurement of materials and permits, monitoring expenditures, and filing receipts with the Treasurer. They will execute correspondence in a timely manner, and manage files related to projects especially where the files involve government correspondence or legal contracts. They will also be responsible for updating project schedules, and making sure volunteers are on track to meet deadlines. From time to time, the coordinator will assist with aspects of project research and with the development and fine-tuning of projects. They will provide brief updates of their activities to the steering committee every two weeks, and at other times should the situation warrant it.

• Ability to multi-task and manage priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize workloads and to develop, plan and complete multiple concurrent projects.
• Ability to track and manage details.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel (pivot tables, formulas, formatting, linking to external data).
• Commitment to the Quadra community.
Base remuneration is $25 per hour. Exceptionally qualified applicants may apply for an increase to the base amount.
