DESCRIPTION:The GC/ICAN Food Security team and the We Wai Kai Nation have partnered to bring this opportunity for youth to earn a Food Safe Certificate. \nThe Youth Food Training Series from Second Harvest is designed to equip youth aged 14 and up with essential skills in food and nutrition\, food waste awareness\, and food safety. \nThis three-part series helps youth build life skills that support independence\, confidence\, and community engagement within their food environment—making it a meaningful experience whether or not they pursue work in food-related fields. This series is available virtually to make participation easy and accessible. \nWorkshop Dates:\nMay 6\, 2026 4-5 pm\nMay 13\, 2026 4-5 pm\nJuly 13\, 2026 9 am – 1 pm\nJuly 14\, 2026 9 am – 1 pm \nHere’s what’s included: \n\nReducing Food Waste at Home – A free\, 1-hour session exploring the environmental and social impacts of food waste—and how youth can be part of the solution. Includes take-home resources.\nPlanning Nutritious Meals on a Budget – A free\, 1-hour session focused on meal planning\, healthy eating\, and practical tips for grocery shopping on a budget.
